The Night Sky

The Night Sky is a quarterly essay currently being written by Rod Norden, a MIRA volunteer and long-time amateur astronomer. Until 2008, they were written by one of MIRA's senior astronomers, Dr. Whitney Shane. The piece highlights seasonal objects such as planets, meteor showers, and galaxies, that are easy to find and satisfying to observe. Dr. Shane's 12 years of work also used the essay to focus on a small piece of astronomy's history, which serves as the main subject. Each essay was included in the MIRA newsletter, but is offered here as a separate work. The current Night Sky is focussed on joys of observing the night sky.
