Friends’ Renewal
June was our Friends’ renewal month. If you haven’t
done so, please renew your membership in the Friends of MIRA. You’ll be
supporting research and education in Astronomy in the Monterey Bay area.
In addition, you’ll receive:
-
Our quarterly MIRA Newsletter, with articles to inform
you about the most exciting recent discoveries in astronomy, MIRA lectures,
and news about the people and projects of MIRA;
-
Several lectures throughout the year, given by well-known
lecturers on the latest discoveries in astronomy;
-
An annual invitation, extended only to the Friends
of MIRA, to view the heavens through our 36-inch research telescope;
-
Events in conjunction with astronomical events, such
as the Comet Hale-Bopp Potluck Party, the Lunar Eclipse Party last September,
and our upcoming Caribbean Eclipse Cruise in February, 1998;
-
Our Web site with news about the latest astronomical,
amateur, and educational events;
-
and, most importantly, you’ll be supporting the astronomical
research and education programs of the Institute.
This November the Friends will have a special opportunity
to meet our Bonestell speaker, Dr. Louis Frank. His exciting and controversial
discovery of micro-comets striking the earth every minute will be sure
to make him an interesting guest at the pre-talk Friends party.
