Spring 1999 MIRA Web Pages a Hit

Our current web pages have been available since April of last year. Recently, we examined the log file to find out what level of interest our pages have been generating. As the educational section, Field Trips to the Stars develops, we expect the use to grow as well. A look now would give us a baseline for comparison after we actively start encouraging classroom use.

kid.jpg (14367 bytes)For the nine month period from April 1998 to the end of the year, we had over 88,000 "hits!" (A hit is a request for a web page.) During that time we had over 12,000 different visits. Only about 5% of those visits were self-generated, i.e., MIRA folk working on or testing the web pages.

We were impressed. Of course, those of us working on the web pages are now working a little harder and trying to think of ways to make our material look more professional and instructive. If you have some ideas for improvements, please let us know. Of course, if you would like to work with us on the pages, we could really use the help; we have just scratched the surface of the Universe so far. In particular, we're looking for someone who can start "translating" our high school-level material into parallel middle school-level material.

Check it out! www.mira.org
