The Pleiades Star Cluster
The Pleiades star cluster, behind which is the solar-type flare star MT Tauri discovered by MIRA's Director Dr. Bruce Weaver. The existence of this and other solar-type flare stars challenges our assumption that all stars similar to our Sun are stable at all time scales required to sustain life. These results have recently been reported in the national and local press. (Composite image by Chuck Vaughn, from Chews Ridge & Digger Pines Ranch, CA)
